Campus Receives UPCEA Meritorious Course Award for Online Course
The University Professional & Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) has awarded the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign a Distance Learning Courses/Meritorious Course award for ATMS 120: Severe and Hazardous Weather.
The online course is offered by the Department of Atmospheric Sciences in the College of LAS through the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) and is taught by Professor Eric Snodgrass. The course was adapted for the online medium (from its face-to-face version) by CITL’s instructional design team working closely with the CITL-ATLAS Digital Media group and an in-house editor.
Based on past years, it appears that only 2–3 courses in this category win awards at the national level.
The Distance Learning Course Awards recognize new and innovative courses that utilize one or more forms of instruction at a distance in college, K-12, and non-credit categories. Course Awards Committee members look at introductory materials, lessons/units, communications variants (i.e. editing, writing style, consistency, etc.) and general course quality to make their decisions.
UPCEA is the professional association for continuing and professional higher education.
